Supporting Scouting in Merseyside

Beavers are usually aged between six and eight years old, though they can be as young as five and three quarters.

They usually meet weekly to take part in a wide range of activities including games, crafts, singing, visits and good turns, along with plenty of outdoor activities.

They will also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them.

Joining

Earlier entry is at the Beaver Scout Leader's discretion (for example, to allow someone a little bit younger to join at the same time as their friends).

Structure

A group of Beavers is called a Colony, and each Colony can be split up into smaller groups called Lodges.

Beavers have a Promise and Motto, but there is not a Beaver Scout Law. The concepts of the Scout Law should be presented to Beavers through games, storytelling and other informal devices.

Blog | Eco Bricks
16/05/2020 By Helen Hannigan

We are joining Merseyside Scouts in there mission to reduce plastic waste and produce Ecobricks for use at Tawd Vale Adventure Centre.

Ecobricks are plastic bottles full of tiny pieces of plastic. When full and of a certain weight, they become bricks/blocks for building!

We are encouraging Beaver Scout Colonies (and other Sections) to fill 2-litre bottles with plastic and to aim for a 660g weight. It is hoped that we can build things such as park benches for the community and a bothy at Tawd Vale Adventure Centre.  There are some great ideas on the Ecobricks website.

Badge work could include: Creative Activity Badge; Community Impact Activity Badge and Global Issues Activity Badge.

The Ecobrick experience can change family lifestyles and if we adopt plastic free homes then less and less ecobricks will need to be created.

Interesting fact: in thirty year's time there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish!

More information and a sign up page is available on the County Website

We are supporting Merseyside Scouts and their 8week CRE8 Challenge. This week, week 2, is all about Community and how we can support those around us.

We thought about this in Liverpool North and thought what better way to do this than show your appreciation to all those working on the front line everyday to help others through this time of crisis.

We want to show our support by creating a video of as many of our members saying a great big THANK YOU to all our key works, medics, shop assistants, lorry and delivery drivers, teachers, carers and parents and everyone else.

We want you to follow these steps to get involved:

Step1: Download the PDF file here either to your tablet to display on screen or computer so you can print it out.

Step 2: Get a family member to help you create a video in your garden, lounge, kitchen or anywhere safe.

Step 3: Hold up and display the banner facing towards the camera and record a short video, no longer than 10 seconds, saying Thank You to an individual or group of people who you think deserves it at this time. This can be anyone from your parents, to the delivery men and women, nurses and doctors or the shop assistants keeping the country going.

Step 4: Email your videos to our District Youth Commissioner, Rainbow, at rainbow.mcgowan@liverpoolnorthdistrict.org.uk. Rainbow will then pull all these videos together and produce a video which we can share with the wider community to show our thanks.

And that's it! If you want you can share your video's to social media but don't forget share on our Facebook page!
